Coaches Corner:   Friday at School is picture day. Your son will get his uniform on Thursday.

Game Schedule is on the LAX website, but is updated continually:  We are going to carry 20-25 guys on the varsity roster.  The rest will be on JV. Your boy has the opportunity to play both. It is fluid, all players will be looked at objectively.  We are trying to put guys with the same skill level to play together. Rosters will be posted a couple days ahead of time and posted on the website.  Please keep looking at the website, because dates, times, and places will more than likely change.

Uniform Care: Please do not put into the dryer, hang them up after the spin cycle.  They do need to be washed on a regular basis.  They are to bring both jerseys and shorts to every game. If they do not have all equipment they will not play.

Schedule Changes:  Monday they will have practice at 8:30 AM, Tuesday Varsity practice at 2PM. JV will leave the HS at 3:00PM. The games starts at 5 PM in Savannah. Varsity has a game on Wednesday. Again be aware you son may play on both teams.

Practice is going well. We have a fair amount of coaches. The boys still need to be throwing, catching, and doing a rebounder on the weekends.

If your boys misses practice it is very likely that he will not play at the next game. Every day they are doing more in practice.

The Crucible: Went well had a great time. The boys were asking to go to sleep. Went to BBall game and played a lot of games. The scrimmage went well.

Uli MVNU:  Uli signed up at a college to play LAX there. He made it happen and did a great job!

Game Schedule:  Right now we have 13 V and 7 JV, playoff the first week of may.

We will have some games in the stadium and some on the band field. There is not anything scheduled on Spring break, around prom, and SAT’s.

We are going GHSA next season. There will be more games for both varsity and JV in less amount of time. We will have more local teams.

Calendar Review:

February 16th: First official Game

April 2nd: Senior Game. Seniors will be honored at the start of the game.

If anyone is interested in any of these positions please get with Allison tonight, a Sign up Genius will be sent out.

Equipment Update: Still have players that will need to purchase mandatory team helmet

**Players who were in the rental program in 2018 will need to purchase the helmet for 2019.

Coaches Corner: Players still with missing items. Need handbook signed by both player and parent. Physical and US Lacrosse number. Would love for all admin stuff done by this week. You do get additional insurance through US Lacrosse.

Draft Schedule to be released:  We will release a prelim schedule tonight.

Practice uniform policy:  Trying to instill discipline of wearing the correct uniform everyday. Have the boys wash their own stuff and keep their equipment clean. Need all uniforms, mouth piece, etc. If they do not have the proper equipment they will run. The boys are listening, working hard, and energy level is good. We have a long way to go but we are getting there.

Following the player handbook policy:

Expectation of Captains:  The boys will vote tomorrow on team captains. The boy will be responsible to do leadership that the coaches are doing now. Ie: beginning work out, uniform check, etc.

            Leadership support from Board/Coaches:

Obligations List/Detentions: There are minor items that the boys may be on the list for. Some boys still have detentions, some students have missed the first week of practice for this. It is a school policy that they can not practice if they are on the list. There is not an easy way for parents to know if the player is on the list.

Feb 1-2, The Crucible details: We are hoping to have an overnight camp at the high school. There will be game videos, and fun stuff. Then on Saturday there will be a team scrimmage. With a LAX 101 for the parents and then a cookout afterwards.

Remind vs. Verizon: If you have Verizon they now want remind to pay for text message. Please make sure that you turn the notifications on so that you can get the message.

Game Draft Schedule:  As of right now we have 12 Varsity and 6 JV games. Please make sure that you look at the address to field, not all games are played at the visiting teams school. Not all teams have availability to play both a JV and a varsity team. There are some limitations but the coaches are trying to get more games.  The goal is by next season to be a GHSA team sport and not a club. If we do that we will have more teams to play us. There are two more games that are not on the prelim. We are allowed to play 5-6 games in the stadium.

We started with 51 boys signed up. Two have quit because of grades. One has a job, coach asked him to make a choice between LAX and work. All boys that quit were long pole, so some boys may be asked to get a long pole. This will give some boys more opportunity for play time.

We have a lot of coaches at practice, so your boys are getting a lot of instruction. Practice starts immediately at 3:30. Our hope is that the boys do not have to run afterwards.

Coach needs volunteer registration completed for parents.  And all boys need an out of state permission slip.

Calendar Review:

January 7thOfficial Practice Begins, Primary School, 3:30 PM, Monday –Thursday

January 22nd, Player Fee Due

Questions

*Our treasure is here to show you exactly what your dues are.

*We have tried to share as many costs with the girls team as possible. The girls team has removed themselves from any type of share cost.

*The only funding from the school we get is busses and a little bit of field paint.

*When we get to the season the boys will get two game uniforms, DO NOT PUT THEM IN THE DRYER. The boy will return the uniform at the end of the season. It is their responsibility to take care of the uniform.

*There is nothing over spring break and then there is a playoff and finals is in SC. LAX runs through May 5th

*We are hoping that we have enough ref’s for this area. We may get bumped, but we do have 12 new rookie refs.

Coaches Corner: Many of the players have already been working out on Saturdays at the primary school and then Tues/Thurs after school.

Offseason workout

January 7thfull season starts from 3:30-5:30 PM at the primary school. Many of the games are played on Saturday and the boys will have Fridays off. We have to hit the ground running in January as there is not many practice days till the season starts.  The coaches goal is not to condition after practice, but to condition during practice.

Strength and Agility test

Wall ball taking a stick and throwing the ball against a wall.

Code of Conduct this will require both the boy and the parent to sign so everyone is aware of consequences if the boys make poor choices.

JV Schedule working on it right now. Most of the teams in our area do not have a JV or enough boys to play. We will try and get the boys a full 10 games. Many of the Club teams we play don’t have enough players for a JV schedule. Coach will have a coach’s meeting soon and the schedule will be posted after that.

Grades

Physicals required. If you son played another sport Coach can find it. The physical needs to be given to coach.  Need before Christmas break in January.

Obligations List/Detentions- you cannot practice or participate if your son is on the list, some of the obligations list is something that can simple. A boy cannot come to practice or go to a game if they are on the list.  If you are late you need to be at the school by the start of third block.

Because LAX is still new, and two days a week is not enough so the boys need to be practicing on their own.

If anyone is interested in any of these positions please get with Jeff, Jason or Allison.

Coaches Corner:

At this point we are considered a club, the only thing that means is that the school does not fund us, the parents are the funders.  Our vision of this club is to treat it just like a varsity sport. We have had boys not take it seriously. It will be treated like a varsity sport. Boys will not be allowed to miss practice for jobs or other reasons. If you cannot commit to the team then LAX may not be the sport for you.  This year LAX will be treated like a varsity sport and we are the only game in town.  It is our goal that we control LAX from 1stto 12thgrade in the future. There is no reason that we cannot make this happen with the size of community that we have. Our goal is to build a program, but we will need committed LAX players.

Strength and Agility-  Insist on that if they are not doing a fall sport then they need to commit to coming the practice starting tomorrow. There are all different positions and they will need to be committed. There will be lots of games on Saturdays so working on Saturdays will not work once the official season starts.

Code of Conduct- this is very important to me. The player handbook will be signed by both the boys and the parents.  If students are vaping, this is the same thing as smoking cigarettes in the schools eyes and there will be consequences.  If you miss practice this will go against you when it comes to play.

Conduct like a varsity sport-

JV schedule- We play in the South Carolina Independent league which includes many of the closer teams than the high schools across GA.  We do get bus transportation from the school. The boys will ride the bus to the field. If you choose to take your boy home the parent must sign the boy out.  The season will run approx. from mid Feb to the end of April beginning of May.

Grades- Your son should have signed up on the LAX website and I will start checking grades soon. The boys must pass 75-80% of their classes. We take grades very seriously.  I will send emails home.

Physicals- You will have to have a current physical. They are good for a full calendar year.  It will need to be on the proper school form that is on the school website, not the LAX website.  You also have to be a member of US Lacrosse.  Do not turn your physical into anyone but Coach.

Obligations List/Detentions- This is  a real thorn in my side, there are things that can put your boys on the obligations list, please check this and make sure everything is turned in. It can be for the most simplest thing.

We currently have 65 signed up the Jr. High has 50 so we will be practicing with over 100 boys once the season officially kicks off. Unless your kids plays football more than likely he is not lifting weights so it is important that the boys get in the weight room as soon as possible. To play LAX you have to be fit and in shape, it is very fast paced. Springtime practices will be M-Th, not on Friday and games on Saturday.  Communication is very important.

We will start to issue letters to the boys as soon as they start conducting themselves as a varsity team.

The coach gave out his email information and ways to communicate with the boys.

Questions:

Jason then gave out the information as to how to get ahold of the coach and committee.

Go Wildcats!

    1. Teambuilding event (high physical stress event followed by team dinner)
    2. Player handbook discussion and the impact of vaping and drug use (player meeting-inside seated, no pads and no bugs – focus on listening, maybe tie it in with chalk talks) –has been talked by the coach to the boys numerous times and he does not know how to enforce this.
    3. Lax 101 chalk talks (for parents –using the Hudl film to explain what is going on) –to have a group event and have the coaches explain what is going on at the game.

Adjourned at 8:27pm.

Please understand that athletes of other sports DO NOT miss practice for work. Part of being a team is the commitment to each other. If your son has to make choices other than practice, please understand that this will affect their playing time. One missed practice a week is 25% of our practice time.
